Acoustic Design

Acoustic Surveillance and Testing Ltd provide acoustic design services to: Our design reports include:

We utilise our experience as well as various professional software packages for testing and acoustic design (see our technical page for more info). Many clients overlook the need to engage the expertise of an acoustic consultant to provide an acoustic design. Many automatically think about using architects, surveyors, structural engineers etc. However, with the current regulations and noise climate, acoustic design is vital to avoid costly mistakes on a project. We have experience in testing many of our own acoustic designs after they have been implemented. We therefore have REAL field test data on how various products work. This is especially crucial for recording studio design.

An acoustic design invariably costs many times less than the potential cost of not having one. An acoustic design that may cost £400 - £600 will save £ 1000's or in most cases £ 10,000's. This is often due to misguidance given at the beginning of the project that leads to remedial works being carried out to correct the situation after.

We are a UKAS accredited testing organisation to conduct sound insulation testing. We can therefore test your premises at the end of a project. We have a lot of experience in complying with regulations i.e. the Building Regulations approved document E. This stipulates the sound insulation values that are required in new builds and conversions which an acoustic design can be based from. Higher sound insulation can be achieved in the acoustic design for other requirements i.e. Code for sustainability where an additional 5 or 8dB above the building regulations may be required.

Building and room acoustics

Home studios, cinema AV rooms, classrooms, offices, function halls etc all require certain acoustic properties to get the best from them, and this is where our services are invaluable. Too much reverberation will cause undesirable effects i.e. loose speech intelligibility, reduce the dynamics of a film in a cinema room with surround sound, cause incorrect recording environment in a studio, create unnecessary levels of noise thus distracting other members of staff in offices and call centers. Acoustic Surveillance and Testing Ltd can provide sound testing and acoustic design a solution in most cases.

Although we do not install sound proof products, we have good contacts with professional installation companies that can provide an installation service for you where required.
